Aaron Maybin in the NFL

Aaron Maybin, a former defensive end at Penn State University, was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. After the 2008 season, Maybin chose to forgo his final two years of eligibility with the Nittany Lions to enter the Draft. Aaron Maybin is 6-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. Full NFL Bio

Sophmore Year Expectations were increased in 2008 for Maybin and he delivered. He started 10 of Penn State’s 13 games at defensive end, recording a team-leading 12 sacks. He had at least one sack in each of the Nittany Lions’ first four games, including a pair of multi-sack games against Coastal Carolina and Temple. His 12 sacks were the most by any Big Ten player and ranked in a tie for sixth among FBS players. He also ranked second in the Big Ten and tied for fifth in the nation with 20 tackles for loss. Maybin’s ability as a pass rushing specialist was evident, as nearly a quarter of his 49 total tackles were sacks. He also led Penn State with three forced fumbles. After the regular season, Maybin was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a consensus first-team All-American. He was also a finalist for the Hendricks Award (best defensive end) and Bednarik Award (best defensive player).

Freshman Year Despite his show of early leadership, Aaron Maybin was redshirted for the 2006 season, giving him time to build up his body for college football. He debuted for Penn State in 2007, playing all 12 games on defense and special teams. Despite limited action on the defensive line, Maybin recorded four sacks, good for fourth on the team. He recorded his first career sack in his college debut against Florida International. He was a Freshman All-Big Ten selection. His best game came against Iowa, when he recorded two sacks for a loss of 14 yards in a 27-7 win.

Playing at Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City, MD, Aaron Maybin recorded 80 tackles and 10 sacks in his senior season – an increase of one in each category over his totals in his junior season. Maybin was a second team All-State and first team All-Howard County selection, earning him the No. 27 national ranking at his position from ESPN’s Scouts Inc. He considered Florida, Maryland, NC State and Virginia before signing with Penn State. Aaron Maybin organized an event on Signing Day in 2006, getting 11 of Penn State’s recruits to sign their letters of intent together at a Maryland hotel.

Personal

He also has a friendly relationship with former Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington, who he met when he was in high school and Arrington was playing professionally with the Washington Redskins.
